I'll be out of town for this week's meet, but Roberto has much experience as a captain. The current line-up is below, but Roberto may rearrange it court-side after sizing up the opposition.

Match 4: Results vs Rec & Ed

We had a beautiful night for tennis on Monday, and a close set of matches against Rec and Ed. Larry continued his undefeated run and Dimitris and Wes had a good night. We had to forfeit the 3rd doubles for lack of players.

1S: Larry won, 7-5, 6-3
2S: Hadar lost, 6-0, 6-2
1D: Mike M. and Bruno lost, 6-4, 6-4 (in a very hard fought match)
2D: Wes and Dimitris won, 6-0, 6-3
3D: forfeit

Match 3: Results vs. Liberty

We played our third match against Liberty on Saturday, June 13th after tornado warnings kept us off the courts on Monday.

Larry continued his run of excellent tennis, but Liberty out-matched us.

1S: Larry won, 6-2, 6-3
2S: David lost, 6-3, 6-2
1D: Wes and Hadar lost, 6-2, 6-1
2D: Roberto and Mike M lost, 7-5, 6-4
3D: Andy C. and Glenn B. lost, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0

At least Larry brought yummy snacks.

Match 3: vs. Liberty at home

Our third match is at home against the guys from Liberty on Saturday, 6/13 at 1:00pm; Monday's was cancelled because of tornado warnings. The current line-up is:

1S: Larry M.
2S: David G.
1D: Wes and Hadar
2D: Roberto and Mike M.
3D: Glenn B. and Andy C.

Thanks to Larry who has volunteered to bring some snacks.

Match 2: Results vs. Huron Valley

We were able to field 8 players for Monday night's meet against Huron Valley, and we improved by one, but still lost. However, at this rate we'll win the rest of our meets.

The results are:

Larry won his #1 singles match 6-2, 6-2
David won his #2 singles match 6-4, 6-2
Wes and Dimitris lost their #1 doubles match 7-5, 6-2
Mike and Roberto lost their #2 doubles match 6-3, 5-7, 1-0
Hadar and Bruno lost their #3 doubles match 6-0, 6-4

It looks like everyone had a fighting chance - I'm sure as the season goes on we'll start getting the ball to bounce our way more often.

While we had a nice day for tennis, we started out behind the eight-ball having to default two matches before we even started.

All three of the remaining matches split the first two sets and were very close. However, RC was able to win only one of the three, with the final results being:

1S: David (RC) lost to Jonathon 3-6, 6-2, 1-0
2S: default
1D: Wes and Dimitris prevailed 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 over David and Rod
2D: Roberto and Gerald lost to Bob and Ammar 7-6, 4-6, 1-0
3D: default

I was injured, but took a few pictures.

Official Practices

Official practices start this Wednesday, 5/20, at 7:30pm and last until 9:00p. Sorry I had the date wrong before; the calendar has been updated.

For those of you who haven't been before, these are pretty active drills run by Martin and the junior pros. Each week Martin will focus on a few skills - serve and volley, lob and overhead, groundstroke placement, etc. At the end of the practice we may play a little to try to remember some of the skills during real points. It's pretty fun and a nice way to get some coaching.

Pre-season Practices

The official USTA practices run by Martin and the junior Pros don't start until the official opening of the Racquet Club, after Memorial Day, when they will be Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00p.

However, at least a couple of us will be congregating at the courts the next two Wednesdays (May 20th and 27th) between 6:30p and 8:00p to get a little bit of practice in before our first match on the Saturday the 30th.
